Tribute

Frank was born on July 21, 1928 to Lyndall and Frank Marturello Sr. in Des Moines, IA and passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 at the age of 95, surrounded by family.

Frank attended school in Des Moines and after high school, he worked in various professions before learning the heating and air conditioning business. He married the love of his life, Rachel Chiovaro, on August 8th, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa. Frank and Rachel were happily married for 71 years. They welcomed their first son, Frank J. in 1951, their first daughter, Connie in 1954, their second son, Steve in 1956, and their second daughter, Lynn in 1961. His work took him to Boise, ID where he eventually went into the heating and air conditioning business with his brother-in-law, Tom Strayer, in 1963 (Gas Heating Co. and Northwest Heating). He retired in 1983.

Frank loved baseball and played for many years. He was inducted into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame in 1957. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball - 9 and 10 year olds; their team was hard to beat. He loved sports, and especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns.

Frank loved getting up at 5:00 almost every morning to walk the mall and spend time with his “mallie” friends. He had a great sense of humor, was very witty and could always come up with a silly story or funny joke. He wants to be remembered for putting a smile on everyone’s face. Frank also took great pride in his home and garden, especially his tomatoes.

Frank is survived by his children Frank J. Marturello (Linda), Steve Marturello, and Lynn Long (Mark); grandchildren Jami Fenwick (Jason), Bobby Marturello, Angelina Long, Trevor Long, and Chanelle Long; great grandchildren Finley and Jarett Fenwick; sister Donna Baker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him dearly. Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rachel; his daughter, Connie; his parents Frank and Lyndall; and siblings: Mary, twin brothers who died at birth, brothers John and Joe Marturello, and sisters, Kay Strayer and Maxine Tyler.

A private graveside service will be held in his honor.
