John W. 'Jack'  McCabe

Jack McCabe, 88,  of Meridian, was sent to Heaven,  Thursday, February 9, 2017

Born  in Great Falls, Montana, February 6,  1929. Jack was the youngest of 4 children born to Ernest J. McCabe and Ruby M. McCabe.

Jack grew up in Great Falls til he went to Spokane, Washington to graduate from Gonzaga High in 1946.  Upon his high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving for 2 years at the end of WWII. During this time Jack was on the U.S.S. Missouri. While he was on the ship, President Truman  came on board for the Goodwill Trip with his wife and daughter. In 1951, when the Korean War broke out, he was recalled to active duty.  During his time in service,  he received a medal in WWII and the Korean War.

Jack met his future wife, Alice Cowper, of Great Falls, Montana in  1947.  Jack knew the moment he saw Alice,  that he was going to marry her.  In June 1949, Jack and Alice were married in Great Falls.  Two children, Michael and Michelle, were blessed to them in Portland, OR.

Jack and Alice lived in a few west coast states throughout their marriage ie:... Seattle, WA, then to Portland, OR, then to Eugene, OR, then back to Portland, then a year in Chicago, ILL, then to Boise, Idaho, then back to Portland til 1987 and then back to Boise. Jack retired from Boise Cascade as a Transportation Manager in 1991.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and he cherished each one who called him by those names. Jack was admired by many who came in contact with him. He enjoyed some traveling ( one of his favorite travel spots was Hawaii, where he and Alice celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family), such as to Hawaii. His hobbies over the years included family vacations, building model airplanes and cars, golfing, spending time with friends playing cards and/or visiting, working in the yard, watching movies/TV.

Jack is survived by his wife Alice, of 68 years; his son Michael McCabe and daughter Michelle Craig, of Meridian, Idaho; Granddaughter, Amanda Craig and Grandson, James Craig of Wenatchee, WA; Grandson, Cory McCabe, of Meridian, ID.

His family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all of Jack's friends and family, for all their kind thoughts and prayers that were given to him during this last stage of his life. Jack had dementia and was in the last stages, sadly he passed away a sudden death not affiliated with the disease. He will surely be missed by all those who crossed his path in life.

We won't be sad, we'll be glad for all the life we had, and we'll remember when....
