Loretta Louise Cheek, 81, of Boise died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.

Louise was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Spokane, Washington, to William Kelton Nichols and Ethel Lorraine Patchens. After World War 2, the family moved to the Treasure Valley where they started a dairy farm.

Cheek graduated from Boise High in 1953. She later received her LPN after taking classes from Boise State University. Cheek worked at Treasure Valley Manor for more than 29 years.

She married Guy Cheek of Chapel Hill, North Carolina on April 10, 1955. The two met when Guy was serving in the Navy and he was invited to Thanksgiving by one of Louise’s cousins because he was so far away from home. It was a case of love at first sight that turned into 51 years of marriage.

Boise eventually became home for the couple as they moved into corner-lot house on the Boise Bench, where they lived for decades. Louise and Guy had three children — Beverly, Theresa and Irene — and the couple enjoyed bowling, trips to the Pacific Coast and their lot in Cascade, and hosting family for large holiday gatherings.

Above all things, Louise loved caring for her family and the elderly. Louise was selfless with her time. She was often found cooking meals for family and friends in need of a meal at all hours of the day.

Louise and Guy loved their grandchildren — Little Guy, Debbie (Will Love), Katrina (Rob Simms), Russell, Chad (Shanta DeVilliers) and Rebecca — and their great grandchildren — Jasmine, Anthony, Scarlett and Khami.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Leata Christiansen and Don Nichols. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings, Joy Tackett and Bob Nichols.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s and Treasure Valley Hospice for their loving care in Louise’s final days.

A viewing is scheduled Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 5-7 p.m., with the funeral on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Cloverdale Funeral Home Chapel.
