William Michael Wetzel, a man of few words, passed away in Meridian, Idaho on September
22nd, 2017 at the age of 62. Mike was born February 28, 1955 at the Mountain Home Air Force
Base to the parents of William Orville Wetzel Jr. and Margene Luella McGuire. Growing up in an
Air Force family most of Mike’s younger years were spent living in various places including
Japan. While in Alaska Mike graduated high school in Seldovia (graduating class of 6 students!),
and on one of his Alaskan teenage fishing adventures caught a 200-pound halibut with lifelong
friend Cathy Bates. Mike migrated to Boise Idaho where he attended vocational school at Boise
Mike met the love of his life Bobbie in eastern Idaho and after marrying August 4th, 1979 they
moved to Kemmerer, WY and later had their first and only child Angela. 8 years later the Wetzel
family journeyed to Boise Idaho and Mike spent over 27 years building locomotives for Motive
Power. Mike’s passions include fishing, camping, hunting, classic cars, tinkering and fixing things,
traveling, playing guitar, growing peppers in his garden, cooking his famous artichoke dip for
others to enjoy, and playing with his grandkids. Mike was most at peace in the mountains and
was driven to find the next big fish!
Mike is survived by wife Bobbie of 38 years, daughter Angela (Braden) Holbrook, grandson
Hunter Holbrook, granddaughter Hannah Holbrook, sisters Jane (Gary) Garver, Judy Wetzel,
Jerry (Dave) Little. Mike is proceeded in death by his parents William and Margene.
Funeral service is October 7th 11AM at Cloverdale Funeral Home 1200 North Cloverdale Rd.
