Chancy “Chan” Dale Gravett, age 74, died suddenly at home on February 17, 2017. Chan was born October 25, 1942 in Wessington, SD to Trubert James and Pearl (Brachvogel) Gravett. He was the youngest of six children.

Chan grew up in Huron, SD and in 1961 married Nancy Tipton, also of SD. He had three sons from that marriage, after which they divorced. On March 18, 1967 he married Marjorie Smart and became a father to her six young children. In the 50 years since, they have been inseparable and have grown a huge loving family.

Chan became a Fireman for the Boise Fire Department in 1967 and retired as a Captain after 23 years of service. Like most fireman, he also had many part-time jobs during his career. He was always very proud to have been a fireman and made lifelong friendships during those years. His family will always have a special place in their hearts for fireman and first responders.

Most important to Chan was his family, and he loved them with all his heart. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law and he cherished each one who called him by those names. As they became adults, he was as much a friend as father. His many hobbies over the years included hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, cars, snowmobiling, building and renovating homes, golfing, watching his BSU broncos, traveling, growing tomatoes, strawberries and chickens, tinkering, and even downhill snow skiing in his late 60’s. All were all done with his family who will dearly miss him, especially when doing these activities they loved doing together.

Chan is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Marjorie, his children and their spouses: Luci (John) McDonald; Roy Flores; Tina (Tim) Eley; Dion (Debbie) Gravett; Twyla Gravett (Gail) Arnold; Lisa Vogt-Feusi, Kevin Engman, Curtis Engman, Chad Engman, his 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his brother, Stanley (Virginia) Gravett of Newnan, GA; sister, Charlotte Paulson, Huron, SD; and sister-in-law, Ada Gravett, Black Hills, SD. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his brother, William (Bill) Gravett; his sisters, Shirley Paulson and Norma Skavang and granddaughter, Katie.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22 from 6pm-8pm and from 10-10:45am Thursday, February 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 3700 S Maple Grove. Services will be at 11:00am Thursday at the same location. Interment will be at Morris Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boise Firefighter’s Local 149 Burnout Fund or the Idaho Humane Society.
