Tribute

Ada Maxine James passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Maxine, as she was known to friends and family, was born on February 23, 1935 in Cabri, Saskatchewan, to Gordon and Helena “Ella” Augusta Matheson, one of 11 brothers and sisters.
She met Richard “Dick” James in New Westminster, British Columbia in 1956 on a blind date, and they were married in 1960. For 57 years, their marriage served as a model of love and commitment to their three daughters, and that legacy continues to echo through multiple generations. Their home was always open to those who needed encouragement, and they had several “honorary” family members. Maxine excelled at hospitality, preparing elaborate meals for family and friends, and making sure everyone had what they needed. Her life was marked by great generosity.
Maxine trained as a RN at the Royal Columbian Nursing School in New Westminster, British Columbia. After moving to Idaho she served as a labor and delivery nurse at both St. Alphonsus and St. Luke’s hospitals. Although she left professional nursing to care for her children, Maxine never stopped being a nurse. She become the de facto nurse for the extended family, all the neighborhood kids, and even served as a camp nurse at summer church camps.
Maxine loved Jesus deeply, attended church faithfully, and loved to read the Bible, especially the Psalms.
Maxine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (James) Hawes and Ruth James, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; as well as three sisters, Liz Prosch, Beatrice Knorr, and Janet Whitrow, two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Kontes and Joann Nelson, and several nephews and nieces. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” James, and oldest daughter, Elizabeth (James) Duffel, as well as six brothers and one sister.
Her legacy of love and faith will live on, even as she lives on with Jesus, her beloved Savior.
Memorial services will take place at Foothills Christian Church, 9655 W. State Street, Garden City, ID, 83714, on Saturday, December 8th, at 2:00 pm, under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
