Tribute

Arlene Raymer Scragg 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 3, 2021.

She was born in Idaho Falls, ID to Emery and Agnes (McKay) Jacobson, residents of Jackson, Wyoming. Arlene spent her childhood in Jackson with her brothers Lester, Gene, Jerry, and Bill, and sisters Ardella, Shirley, and Carroll.

While her parents wintered in Boise, Arlene transferred to Boise High School, graduating in 1947. She married John Edward “Ed” Raymer upon his return from service in the Panama Canal zone. They had four children Bud, Dennis, Debbie, and Nancy, whom they raised in Boise. Ed passed away in 1977.

Arlene attended Boise Junior College and Boise State University earning a Bachelors, and later a Masters degree in Education. She retired from Cole Elementary School and the Boise School District in 1995 after teaching 25 years.

In 1979 she met Paul Scragg while dancing at the Ranch Club and they married in 1980. They traveled the world together, with friends, siblings, children, and grandchildren. After Paul’s passing in 2005, Arlene continued to travel and pursue her love of music and theatre in her favorite concert halls of the world.

Arlene was an original ‘heath nut’ and a member of the Boise Co-op since 1975. She continued her yoga practice well into her 80s. Arlene loved to say she was part of the greatest generation.

She is survived by her sister, Carroll of Susanville, CA; sons, Bud (Kim) of Park City, UT, and Dennis of Boise, ID; daughters, Debbie (Steve) of Bend, OR, and Nancy (David) of Reno, NV; and her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

We will celebrate Arlene on Memorial weekend 2021, details to be announced.
