Barbara Jeanne Nielsen, 62, passed away May 8th, 2021 at home. Barb was born April 1st, 1959 to William and Carol Nielsen in Champaign, Illinois. Barb traveled the world as a child of an Air Force medic. This included England and New York with a final childhood residence in Great Falls, Montana. At the age of 23, she married Bill Hohler in Lolo, Montana. All four of her children were born in Missoula.
In 2002, the family moved to Boise, ID. Barb worked as a valued employee at the City of Meridian in payroll until retirement. In July of 2018, Barb was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Barb decided to live the remainder of her life to the fullest. And she did. Barb traveled extensively to the Oregon Coast, Alaska, Utah, Montana, and even Disneyland. Barb spent as much time with her children and grandchildren as possible all while engaging in treatment to prolong quality of life. She enjoyed bowling competitively and crocheting gifts for others.
Barb did all she could to prepare her family for her departure. She is survived by siblings, Paula (Joe) Ouert and Cathy Nielsen; her children Katie (Dakota) Gullickson, Jeanna (Andy) Verdini, and Dan (Alyssa) Hohler all from Boise; her grandchildren Brynn and Camren Davey, Kanoa and Isla Gullickson, Beckham and Brinklee Hohler.
Barb is preceded in death by both parents, her son, Timothy Hohler, and her granddaughter, Zimmerlee Hohler. Our lives have been enriched by sharing in her life and she is greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace with our Father in Heaven.
“There is nothing enduring in a person’s life except what she builds in family and friends’ hearts.”
Family is graciously accepting floral arrangements for the funeral home or donations to St. Jude.org in her memory.
Arrangements are being made under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, ID. Please wear your favorites shades of blue if attending her service.
