Tribute

Bill W. Luke, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021, peacefully at St. Lukes Meridian with the love of his life by his side, Annalee. Bill was born on November 16th, 1931 in Oxford, Nebraska to Roy V. Luke and Cecile Yeomans Luke. He attended school in Mascot, Nebraska through the 10th grade and finished at Meridian high school. He married his high school sweetheart, Annalee Fisk Luke and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. His pride and joy was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many! Bill enlisted in the 116th Army National Guard in 1949 and retired from the 321st Engineers, putting in 27 years of service to his country. He received a Service Award from the Meridian Police Department where he volunteered from 1967 to 1979. He also was given an Appreciation Award for 10 years of service from the Meridian Fire Department. He was Meridian’s Man of the Year in 1974 and was even given the license plate of #2 (just under the governor’s plate #1).
Bill was a Cub Scout Master and an Explorer Scout Leader. He was a member of Good Sam, member of the Meridian Athletic Association, the Meridian Jaycee’s, and loved playing Santa Claus for the City of Meridian and numerous other organizations. He retired from the Ada County Highway Department in 1994. He was a member of the Eagle Baptist Church for 67 years where he was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent, he then relocated to the Meridian First Baptist Church where he was currently a member. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, metal detecting and gardening. He especially loved blue grass music and loved to yodel. Most of all he loved being with his family. He attended every sport, and achievement he possibly could of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Bill is survived by his wife Annalee; his children Debra (Ed) Brashier, Dan (Jo) Luke, David (Shellie) Luke, daughter-in-law Laurie Luke, sister Joyce Wade, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son Mike and his parents.
One of the last things he said before he passed was “tell the kids to know Jesus”. It was one of his passions and he was never afraid to share his faith. He was a man’s man who loved the Lord, was admired, a role model, always putting others before himself, gentle, humble, giving, patient, kind and loved to make people laugh.
