Dale Arlan Babcock

May 2, 2019

Tribute

Dale Babcock, a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away May 2, 2019. Dale was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on October 6, 1940 to Terence and Lorraine Babcock. He grew up in New Richland, Minnesota where he was a leader in high school sports and graduated as salutatorian in 1959. He worked to put himself through college at Mankato State and graduated in 1964 with a degree in education, focused on science and math.
In 1963, he met Karen Wohlrabe, and they later married in March of 1964. Dale and Karen attended Bemidji State together to obtain their Master’s degrees. After teaching at several schools in Minnesota, the couple bought a house in Menahga and started their family, with daughters Jacqueline and Julie born in 1970 and 1972. In 1975, the family relocated to Idaho and Dale began his career as a school psychologist, working for the Meridian School District. Dale touched the lives of students, families, and teachers in the district throughout his tenure there.
In the 1980s, Dale became a licensed clinical professional counselor, specializing in marriage and family therapy, continuing to impact the lives of the people he worked with through his private practice. Because of his passion for Individual Psychology based on the teachings of Alfred Adler, he joined the Idaho Society of Individual Psychology (ISIP), where he served on the board of directors and taught workshops to counselors and social workers throughout the state, even after retirement.
Dale retired from the Meridian School District in 2002, but remained an active participant of ISIP and a regular attendee at Ustick Baptist Church. During retirement, he enjoyed camping at Waters Edge in Cascade, riding his ATV, coffee with friends, and relaxing in his recliner to read a good book. Recently, he had renewed his counseling license and was enjoying assisting with group marriage counseling.
Dale will be remembered for his witty comic relief, his ability be an amazing listener, his kind heart, and his faithful friendship.
Dale is survived by his wife, Karen (Wohlrabe) Babcock; his two daughters, Jacqueline Solis (Akin Kolawole) and Julie Babcock-Hyde (Bill Hyde); his granddaughter, Kiah Babcock; his brother, Bruce Babcock (Janine Babcock); and his sister, Nancy Babcock Busse.
