Don & Susan Gomes

Susan Lou Gomes, age 70 of Meridian, Idaho passed away on September 15, 2021.  Susan was born in Arkansas on October 26, 1950 to her late parents, William H. McDonald and Jacqueline M. McDonald.  Donald (Don) Richard Gomes, age 72 of Meridian, Idaho passed away on September 19, 2021.  Don was born in California on June 13, 1949 to his late parents, Melvin P. Gomes and Betty A. Gomes.

Don, our Dad, father-in-law, Popo, brother and friend was “owesome”.  For those of you that don’t know that story, let us explain.  We were in Arkansas visiting and Don came downstairs wearing a ball cap that had the letter “O” on it.  When Kori asked him what the letter O stood for he very seriously answered and said “awesome”.  She then reminded him that awesome was spelled with an A to which he responded, “well then it’s owesome!” We had a good laugh and we joked about it for many years after.  He even said he wanted “owesome” on his tombstone.  He will forever be remembered as “owesome” for his love, forgiveness, hard work and ultimately his sense of humor and sarcasm.

Susan was an amazing mom, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend.  She was a beautiful soul that never met a stranger.  She loved her family (which included her dog Tobin) both near and far with all her heart.  She was generous with her time, her love and her forgiveness of others.  She was a faithful believer and follower of Christ.  Even though Don was always the “funny one”, she had a great sense of humor as well as a beautiful smile and laugh.  She will forever be remembered for her kindness, sincerity, love and generosity for others.

Don and Susan recently had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February.  Their love for each other and their family was admirable.  Recently Susan had shared how much she loved Don and in looking at some of the past cards they had shared with each other Don stated that Susan had “saved him”.  They would not have wanted to do life apart from one another and it gives us Peace to know they will be holding hands together for eternity!  Together they raised a wonderful family and their love for one another is an example to us all.  Their legacy will live on in all that loved them dearly.

Don and Susan are survived by their two children Kori (Paul) Parendo, Matt (Jessica) Gomes, five grandchildren Hannah (Kyle) Hossfeld, Andrew Parendo, Lauren Parendo, Cruz Gomes and Rose Gomes.   Don is also survived by his sister Susan Taylor and brother Scott (Toni) Gomes.  Susan is also survived by her sister Joanne Felton, brothers Michael (Debbie) McDonald and Bill McDonald.   They were also survived by many nieces and nephews whom they loved as well.
