Tribute

Donald Erick Granberg, age 78, passed away on August 31, 2018. Donald was a loving husband, father, and friend to many. He was always happy, loved to fish, and could entertain anyone with his infamous stories.
He was born along with his twin brother, Ronald, on November 14, 1939 in Holden, Massachusetts to Carl and Elsa Granberg. He moved to Idaho in 1959 while stationed in Mountain Home with the Air Force. There he met and fell in love with his wife, JoAnn Webster. They were married on May 21, 1960. They had a son D. Duane later in 1960. The family then moved back to Massachusetts for 3 years where Don worked at Worchester Wire. While there, they had second son, Dean, in 1962. They moved back to Boise and Don took a job at Van Gas where he worked for 9 years. A third son, Douglas, was born in 1969. Don then took a job at Intermountain Gas where he worked for 33 years.
In his retirement, he loved going to Northern Idaho to fish in lake Pend Oreille. He went on a yearly fishing trip with his sons, brothers, and grandkids for over 20 years. It was the highlight of his year and he told many fishing stories about these fun family times. He enjoyed going on trips in their motorhome and shopping at yard sales and farmers’ markets. He bought flowers for his sweetheart every Saturday without fail. He loved fresh vegetables and had a fabulous garden for many years. He loved sports. He could be found working the chains at a Borah high football game, watching his beloved Red Sox, the Cleveland Browns, or Boise State Football whenever they played. He never missed a game, and had a wonderful memory for all sorts of sports trivia. He was the Santa for Intermountain Gas’ Christmas party for many years and it brought him tremendous joy. He was an incredibly strong, hardworking, and loving man for his entire life.
Don is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his brothers, Ronald Granberg of Maryland, and Richard Granberg of New Hampshire; his children, Duane (Nicole) Granberg, and Dean (Connie Boyer) Granberg, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
