Donald Clay Olsen passed away at home from natural causes on June 16, 2017. He was born March 18, 1934, to Norman and Ora Mary Olsen. Don was the youngest of 12 children and he loved to tell stories about his adventures with his siblings and friends.
He went to Central Cove School and then graduated from Homedale High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he started his 20 year Air Force career. He met his beloved wife, Eunice, at a USO dance in California. They married on Sept. 4, 1953 and had 3 children. He was stationed at 10 bases in 7 states and Korea during his years in the service. Don was very proud of serving his country. To Don, nothing was as important as faith, family, and his country.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Don was hired by Telex Computer Company as a computer repairman in Fresno, California. In 1976, he was transferred to Boise and he remained in this position for 17 years. He also worked at Department of Health and Welfare, Computerland, and the Boise School District.
Don and Eunice joined the Lutheran Church on Mothers’ Day weekend in 1961. They were both quite active in the church during their retirement years. They jointly chaired and served on the Fellowship Committee for many years. They both loved planning social events for their church, their friends, and their family. Don even served as the Cluster President for one year. They also enjoyed camping.
Don is survived by his children, Linda Collins, Norman (and Melinda) Olsen, Mary (and Tom) Friddle; his grandchildren Rebecca Sayers (Jonathan Ott), Jonathan Collins, Brittany Collins, Matthew Friddle, Steven Olsen, Sarah Olsen, and Nick Friddle; and great grandchildren Shay Collins and Sabra Ott. He is also survived by his sisters Faye Mayne and Freda Lineberger, sisters-in-law Helen Roberts and Shirley Olsen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his siblings and their spouses; Mary Ellen Olsen, Cloyd and Helen Olsen, Dick and Merla Olsen, Merl Olsen, Faith and Harold Couey, Merrill Mayne, Bob and Pete Olsen, Everett Olsen, Jimmy and Inez Olsen, Norris Lineberger, and Chet and Edna Olsen; and his in-laws, Russell and Florence Roberts and Donald Roberts.
The service will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Boise, Idaho on July 1, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to King of Glory Lutheran Church, Luther Heights’ Bible Camp, or The American Heart Association.
