Tribute

Dorris Lee Quinn, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018 at St Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho after suffering a stroke.
Dorris was born on March 2, 1929 in San Dimas, California to her parents, James Tully Gary and Helen Marie (Shuck) Gary. She graduated from the Chapman College, Los Angeles, California with a Bachelor in Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1951. She married Jean B Quinn in 1955. The Quinn’s lived in the San Fernando Valley where Dorris helped raise Jean’s two sons and was a beloved aunt to their three nephews. She worked for Northridge University as an Academic Counselor working with the students to help them determine what educational direction they should pursue. They later moved to Crowley Lake, California working for the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department renovating many outlying camps used by church, handicapped and inner-city groups. When her marriage ended, Dorris followed her (Gary) family to Boise, Idaho. She worked for Idaho Power Company and the State of Idaho Fish and Game Department.
Between 1990 and 1993, Dorris had the opportunity to go to Port Gibson, Mississippi to live with and care for Rosa Page Welch, a long-time disciple and ambassador in delivering Christ’s message of brotherhood through song. Rosa died in 1993 and Dorris returned to Boise, Idaho.
Dorris was an avid fisherman and loved being in the outdoors. She frequently would take children in the family camping and fishing or to the movies, the theater or just stay home with them and play games. She loved reading anything she could get her hands on. She was an active member of University Christian Church (now Parkview Christian Church) where she served as chair for several activities. She was a member of the Celebration Choir and a member of the Hand Bell Choir. She became an Elder of the church in 2009.
Dorris, working with her church family, was instrumental in building and establishing the Dogwood Plaza Apartments for qualified Seniors, where she lived until her death.
Dorris always had a smile on her face. She did not know a stranger. She loved everybody and was loved well in return. God blessed us with this beautiful person and now she is with Him in Heaven.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 3:00pm at Parkview Christian Church, Meridian, under the direction of Reverend Justin McMurdie.
