Erma E. Whitehead Peak, 96, of Boise, Idaho, passed away of natural causes with her niece Ida Jean Whitehead Anderson by her side, on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

She was born in Garden City, Kansas on April 4, 1921, to Joseph and Anna (Koski) Whitehead.  She moved with her family to Shoshone, Idaho at the age of 9.

She met her husband, Elmer, in Shoshone and they were married on April 9, 1938 in Jerome, Idaho, enjoying 54 years of marriage.  When she wasn't working along side her husband Elmer on their family farm north of Shoshone for 47 years, Erma enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, crafting, reading, and listening to music.  Erma worked at the Wood River Care Center and Johnny's Country Store when the kids were in school; and her summers were spent as a 4-H Leader.  She was a member of the Wood River Grange, United Farmers Organization, and the North Shoshone Home Economics Club.  When Erma wasn't working, she was teaching her kids and the neighbor kids to swim at the head gate.  Erma's heart was full of love for all who knew her – we will always feel her love and hear her laughter.  Erma designed and created a family cookbook - "Peak" Into Our Kitchen, for the 1996 Peak Dodge Reunion dedicated to her mother-in-law, Ada Pearl Dodge Peak, "A Truly Kind Woman".  She accomplished this task with the assistance of Kathleen Anderson and Kayleen Peak, as well as the 59 dedicated cooks who sent in recipes.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1992; two sons, Don and Rick; daughter-in-law, Debbie; two sisters, Noma Conner and Iona McGhee; and three brothers, Paul, Wilbur "Slim", and Les.  She is survived by her children Paul Peak (Betty) of Lamoille, NV; JoeAnna Peak of El Mirage, AZ; Judy Waggoner (Ron) of Boise; five grandchildren, Paula Proctor, Donald Peak, Derrick Peak, Dusty Peak, Jason Mason; seven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Anderson (Kirk) of Boise; and many nieces and nephews who will forever hold her dear in their hearts and memories.

The family would like to thank Erma's "family" at Good Samaritan Society, Boise Village and staff at St. Alphonsus Hospital for their kindness and compassion.  The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.

The memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 11 o'clock in the Activity Center at Samaritan Village Apartments – 3360 North Collister Drive, Boise, Idaho.  Graveside services are pending for late spring 2018 at the Shoshone Cemetery.
