Eugene Hinnrichs, 75, of Boise passed as a result of a long battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. His family was by his side when he peacefully passed.

He was the middle son of three children and grew up in Milwaukee, WI. As a teenager, he was a member of an Explorer Post of the Boy Scouts of America and became an avid fisherman. He often fished the Milwaukee River during his childhood. He was confirmed at Mount Tabor Evangelical Church and graduated from Boys Tech and Trade School. He joined the United States Navy after high school. After completing basic training at Great Lakes Naval Academy, he served aboard the USS Independence, an aircraft carrier, and was a part of the 1962 Cuban Blockade. In 1965, after his time with the armed forces, he attended the University of Wisconsin and then moved to Missoula, MT to attend the University of Montana where he graduated with a BA in Forestry.

He enjoyed a 20-year career in forestry; working for Potlatch Corporation. He enjoyed a career that contributed to his passions of hunting, hiking, camping, and fishing.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Johnna; son, Anthony; brother, William; sisters-in-law, Penny and Darleen; and his nephews, David, Mathew, and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kurt (d. 1965) and Hazel (d. 2011); brother, Jeffery (d. 2014); son, Mark (d. 1994); and nephew, Jason Hinnrichs (d. 2004).

A graveside committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 9th at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery located at 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. Boise, Idaho. Following the service, close family and friends are invited to a brunch at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 11443 W. McMillian Rd, Boise, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Cloverdale Funeral Home.
