Florence M. Dors, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2020, with family by her side at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. She was born to Tabitha Crooks and Theodore Gregory on October 18, 1919. Her long life was centered in Boise and around her family there. She graduated from Boise High School and lived on 4th Street, near the Idaho State Capitol Building. In 1939, while roller skating, Florence met the love of her life, Van A. Dors, and they married in Elko, Nevada on September 19, 1940. Together, they raised two children, Allen George Dors and Susan Marie Dors. During World War II, they took their young son to Portland, Oregon, and enjoyed rare days off by going to movies at the Majestic Theater. To supplement the family income Florence sewed drapery. She and Van enjoyed square dancing in the 1950’s and later made regular weekend trips to Chico, California, with many late nights dancing at nearby Pinocchio’s restaurant. Once grandchildren arrived (Monica Dors, Nathan Dors, Jason Hiibel, Melissa Hiibel), Florence and Van took them on family trips to favorite trailer parks up and down the Oregon coast, as well as trips with Susan to visit Allen in Boston. Florence will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, excellent storyteller, and caring listener - someone who always had a tissue or treat in the pocket of her jacket for a family member. She baked brownies and banana bread for her neighbors and garbage collectors alike, and maintained a warm, welcoming, and loving home in south Boise.
An informal celebration of her 100 years will be held at Cloverdale on Sunday, February 9th at 2:00pm. Comfortable attire encouraged and, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen organization.
