Tribute

Gladys was born on a farm in western Kansas near Gretna, April 17, 1920. The doctor said she was “perfect” at birth, that fact followed her through her life. She died on May 8, 2018 after 98 years. During that time she exhibited grace and fortitude in all that she did.

Her parents were Calvin and Jessie (née Shaw) Hutchinson. Life on the farm was enjoyable for Gladys, dodging her brother Alvin’s ideas of the moment and riding her pony to the mailbox 1/2 mile away.

She married David Henry Mizer, a town boy, in 1938. While Dave was in the Navy during WWII, Gladys worked at the base laundry. As an officer at the base attempted to cut-off others in line to pick up laundry, she directly told him “the line is back there”. Standing her ground and doing what is right came naturally to her.

She is survived by her two children, Diana and David; grand-daughters, Jessica Claflin and Abigail Watts, and their spouses, Serge Chalhoub and Richard Watts; one great-grandchild Carpenter Watts, now just 10 months old; niece, Sharon Martin, and her children, Tim Martin and Tawna Spoor; two cousins, Foster Matteson and Roscoe Matteson.

A graveside service will be held May 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Terrace Lawn Memorial Park in Meridian, ID.
