Glenn Victor Zimmer was born February 22, 1926 in Boise, Idaho to Otto C. and Martha Christian Zimmer. He was raised on a dairy farm on Boise Avenue. He was a real “country boy” riding his horse to Garfield School most of the time. After he graduated with the class of ’44 from Boise High he went into the service. He was wounded while crossing Belgium and received the Purple Heart medal. On September 25, 1946 he married his longtime friend from north Junior High days, Phyllis Elaine Thompson. They became the parents of thirteen children.
He was a printer by trade and retired in 1981 as supervisor of the Department of Employment print shop. After retirement he and Phyllis took up square and round dancing, bought a travel trailer, and made the dancing circuit their hobby.
He was secretary treasurer of the ESARs (Employment Security Agency Retirees). He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his sons, Mike, Dave, Chas, Tim, John, Tom, and Rick; daughters, Teresa Davis, Judy Gardner, Molly Keefer, Cathy Lee, and Tori Simons; sister, Charlotte Tyger; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. His is preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis; his parents and parents-in-law; son, Paul Martin; sister, Harriet Pickerell; and a granddaughter Amber Marie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
