Harriet Fease

January 1, 2020

Tribute

On Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 Harriet Fease passed away at the age of 96.
Harriet Francis (Drittenbas) Fease was born in her grandparent’s home in the town of Adrian, Grant County, Washington on December 5th, 1923. She was born to Katherine Elizabeth (Pearce) and Harry Fred Drittenbas Sr.
Harriet had two siblings, Darlene (Drittenbas) Schmuck and Harry Drittenbas Jr. and three half siblings, Ellen Minard, Gladys Perl (Vickrey) Fortner, Ellis Clair Vickrey.
Harriet grew up in Grand Orchard and Ephrata, Washington where her father was mayor. As the mayor’s young daughter, she was given the honor of presenting President Franklin D. Roosevelt with the official plaque for the ceremonial declaration of the new Grand Coulee Dam.
Harriet shared her memories of growing up in a small town and doing things such as riding horses with her sister Darlene and friends to spend the day at Soap Lake, Washington. She really liked horses and had a pony which was known for eating cherries and spitting the seeds out. She talked about this many times as it was a fond memory of hers.
When she was a senior in high school working at the local drug store as soda jerk, a young man named Marion (Sonny) Fease from Melba, Idaho came into the drug store. Harriet captured Marion’s heart and three months later after Harriet graduated they were married.
They spent a glorious sixty-four years married and had many fun adventures before Marion passed away. In that sixty four years they made many friends that became like family.
Harriet was quiet and reserved but she truly liked people and people gravitated to her which resulted in many long and bonding friendships. She was kind and approachable with a light behind her dark brown eyes. Once you were her friend, you were her friend for life.
Harriet was an artist, golfer, seamstress, a devoted wife and mother. She worked as a buyer and co-manager at Dewey’s Hallmark store. She volunteered at St. Luke’s hospital for many years.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Marion, her father Harry and her mother Katherine, her sister Darlene, her brother Harry Jr., her half-sisters Gladys and Ellen, and her half-brother Ellis. She is survived by her four children; Michael William Fease (wife Jan Fease), Timothy Fred Fease, (wife Kathy Fease), Deborah Diane Fease, and Tracy Ann Fease. Her grandchildren: Amy Lorance, Leslie Fease, James Fease, Michael D. Fease, Michael L. Tate, and Kelsey Fease. Her great-grandchildren; Matilda Alair, Justice Douglas, Ayla Fease, and Dawson Fease.
