Tribute

Irene Adelaide Stanke Morris Clough, 101, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Meridian, Idaho, after suffering from a massive stroke two days prior.

Irene was born in Madison, Nebraska on August 17, 1916, to Emil and Martha Zeuge Stanke and was the second of three children. At age two, she moved with her family to South Dakota where they homesteaded.

At age 14, she and her family moved to Meridian, Idaho, where she attended school. In 1935, she graduated from Meridian High School and married John Earl Morris. They settled in Meridian. After their two children were born, they moved to Boise. They were later divorced.

Irene was a conscientious and dedicated employee with an outstanding work ethic. She worked for 17 years at the Idaho State Income Tax Division as Assistant Bookkeeper and then Head Bookkeeper. Irene dedicated herself to earning her degree in higher accounting from LaSalle Extension University, Chicago, Ill., studying late into the night while balancing a full-time job, raising her two children, and maintaining a household. But earn it she did, and after graduating, she worked for 17 years at Boise Cascade as Pension and Investment Administrator before retiring at age 65. Additionally, for 20 years she was Trustee for “Others, Inc.,” a non-profit organization founded by her and her husband, E. S. Clough, whom she married in 1953.

Irene enjoyed family activities, cooking, nature, painting, drawing, and sewing and became accomplished in all her endeavors. She also had great love and appreciation for animals, and especially adored her dogs.

Irene’s passion was her family. She was loving and caring and touched many lives with her warmth and generosity. Her family loves her, and she will be deeply missed. She truly leaves a legacy of love.

Irene shared a great love for the Lord. Before leaving South Dakota as a child, she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. After moving to Boise, she attended other Christian churches, the last being the Nazarene church. She was grateful to the Lord for all his many blessings and gifts and delighted in the promise of being reunited with Him.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, E.S. “Clark” Clough; her son, William Morris; her granddaughter, Brooke Morris Zundell; her brother, Fred Stanke; and her sister, Herta Rose. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Mark) Hicks; her grandchildren, Jay (Denise) Clark, Lori (Mark) Alverson, Juli (Keith) Bardsley, and Mike Morris; a niece, Joan Reader; a nephew, Robin (Cathy) Rose; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and cousins.
