Jacquelyn Kay Shutz, 83, passed away at her home at Garnet Place Assisted Living in Garden City on February 25, 2018 with family by her side.
Jackie was born on January 1, 1935 to Bernice “Bernie” Joseph Raines and Mildred “Pat” Rosetta Raines in Boise, ID where she lived throughout her life full of wonderful memories. She attended Whitney Elementary, South Junior High and graduated from Boise High School. Jackie worked in her teens as a “sales lady” at dress shop Princess Vogue, then at Falks ID Department Store where she worked the telephones, operated the elevator, did bookkeeping and in the sales department. After raising her young family, she went to work at Gowen Field Credit Union first as an Assistant Manager but was soon promoted to Manager. She finished out her working career as a Manager at St. Luke’s Credit Union retiring in 1993 but her greatest joy was being a homemaker, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Jackie had many great early memories of hanging out with her best friends Maxine and Teresa Anderson crawling through an underground pipe on the elementary school grounds, going bowling, playing volleyball and basketball, playing the piano but one of her favorite things to do was going downtown with her girlfriends “looking for boys”!
In 1954 she went to a dance at Cole School where she met the love of her life Donald H. Shutz. Shortly after meeting Don he was called to serve in the Air Force in Georgia but soon started missing Jackie and returned to Boise fixed on marrying her. Don called Jackie upon his arrival home asking her to meet him on her lunch break and proposed to her asking her “do you want fancy rings or a bedroom set”. She chose the bedroom set because she knew that is what HE wanted! They married in a garden ceremony at the home of Don’s parents in September 1954. Don and Jackie lived on 23rd St. in Boise where they started their family welcoming son Dan in 1955, and daughter Lori in 1957. They moved to a larger home on Joretta St. in Boise and welcomed daughter Dawnie in 1966. In 1977 the country life called to them and they bought some acreage in Eagle. Here they welcomed foreign exchange daughter Yukino.
Don and Jackie shared the love of many hobbies and travel. They went on some great trips with Dawnie and the Gem State Gymnastics team. Here they met some lifelong friends. The love of travel took them to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. They often traveled with good friends. They had some wonderful adventures with Lori and her husband Don going to Hong Kong, Thailand, Branson Missouri, Las Vegas, the Oregon and Washington coasts and many other places closer to home. They both enjoyed bowling, golfing, water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, playing cards and dominos and Jackie’s favorite, pulling those slot machine handles! They made many wonderful memories taking their family camping at Warm Lake and at their cabins in McCall and Cascade.
After Don’s passing in February 2000, Jackie volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital where she met Delbert Gould, a kind and wonderful man who became a close friend, companion and love until his passing in March 2012.
Jackie is survived by her son Dan Shutz (Fantasia) of Nampa, daughter Lori (Don) Cantrell of Meridian, daughter Dawnie (Brian) Pooley of Eagle, her grandchildren Nekolla(Jonathan), Jake, Nicholas, Kaylauni (Jeff), Drew, Tanner, Taylor, Andrea (Casey), Justin and Sierra (Mike), her great-grandchildren Elise, Warren, Azure, Sydney, Haevyn, Ollie and Ripley, her brother-in –law Richard Shutz, several nieces and nephews , her large extended family and many friends who have been loyal throughout her life – Herb and Marlene, Troy and Donnie Jo, Dallas and Jeannie, Bob and Ann, Skip and Hope – just to name a few.
Jackie is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her husband and her two brothers.
We want to express special love and thank you to Jackie’s niece (who was her daughter in her heart) Gloria and Michael Wickham who have cared for and helped her in countless ways. We are forever in your debt.
Our family would like to thank Jackie’s extended family at Garnet Place Assisted Living. You made her feel at home and treated her with love, respect and dignity. Your care and compassion was deeply appreciated. The family would also like to thank the staff at Idaho Home Health and Hospice for your care, compassion and support.
The family invites you to join them in celebrating the life of Jackie on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Graveside service at Terrace Lawns Memorial Gardens and a Reception following at Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception facility.
