Janice Lee Pletcher

November 25, 2019

Tribute

Janice L Pletcher was born in Eskridge, Kansas, June 23, 1934, to Carl and Rose Harrold.  She had one brother, Richard (Anita), and one sister, Joan (Max Martin). They were a very close and loving family.  They had a home in town, and her parents ran the local locker plant.  Her father cut and sold meat, and they bought and sold cream and eggs.  The three kids helped with the business as they were growing up, and her parents were very involved in the children’s activities as well.

Janice attended schools in Eskridge, graduating from high school in 1952.  She enjoyed playing the trumpet in the school band.  Although she had met Rex Pletcher in grade school, she didn’t begin to date him until her senior year.  They were married November 22, 1953 and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.  They began their lives together in Topeka, Kansas where Janice worked for the State Tax Commission.  In 1956, the young couple moved to Boise, Idaho.  Janice worked for Boise Cascade Corporation and retired in 1996, while Rex worked for Thriftway Lumber until his retirement in 1998..

Idaho was the perfect place for Janice and Rex to raise their family.  They had four children.  John (Sue), Cindy (Monty Richardson), Steve, and Michael (Christy).  They were blessed with six grandchildren, Sean (Melissa), Christopher, Amy (Jeff Gajda), Tyler, Parker, and Rachel.  They also have one adorable great granddaughter, Oaklee Jade Goodwin.  Family was extremely important to Janice and she was very close with Rex’s siblings and all their nieces and nephews.

Janice loved the outdoors. She enjoyed going to the mountains and treasured time at the end of a fishing pole.  She was very fond of gardening- harvesting fruits and vegetables as well as tending to beautiful flowers.  She and Rex had a huge raspberry patch and were able to share their produce with the farmers market not far from their home.  They also had apple trees and rhubarb and Janice made delicious desserts from the spoils.  Health and exercise were also important to her.  She and Rex took long walks together nearly every day.  Even so, her family was surprised when they heard that she joined Curves Gym in her 70’s to help her keep in shape!

Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Richard, brother in law Max Martin, and her parents.

Janice and Rex were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Kevin Startcher will conduct a Graveside Service at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens beginning at 10:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:30 am.
