Tribute

Jay D. Martindale passed away October 23, 2018 at his home in Boise, Idaho surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born January 22, 1936 in Burley, ID to Edwin Clinton Martindale and Velma S. Dockstader Martindale. In his youth, the family lived in Burley, ID, the Los Angeles, CA area, Burley again and then Payette, ID. His parents separated in 1948. Jay and his two younger brothers Leon and Bill lived with their father in Ontario, OR along with their stepmother Lucille Cunningham Smith Martindale and her two daughters Pat and Jean. His older sister Vonda and younger brother Vern stayed in Payette with their mother. Later, three more siblings were added to the greater family, Susan C. Martindale on his father side plus Delain D. Horn and Lorie L. Fenton on his mother’s side.
During his teenage years, Jay and his brothers worked in his father’s plumbing and heating and crop-dusting businesses. He also enjoyed playing sports at Ontario High School where he graduated in 1954. After high school, Jay joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a communications technician. After his discharge, he met Dolores Belgard and in May 1959 they were married in Ontario, OR. They had two daughters, Valinda and Jadean before moving to Boise, ID in1962. Jay and Dolores divorced in 1964. Then work took Jay to Georgia. Later, he moved to South Carolina where he met Barbara Weed Goodwin. Jay moved back to Boise in 1972. Barbara soon followed and they were married in 1973. At that time, Jay became father to Barbara’s three sons, Bruce, Alex and Tony.
Jay joined the Idaho #1 Masonic Lodge in 1979. He became a member of the Shriner’s El Korah of Boise in 2002 and as a member of the Cameleers group served as Stable Master. Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping with friends and family looking forward to the annual family reunion at Cascade Lake each July and the family reunion and birthday celebration every February.
Jay was preceded in death by his Infant brother Edwin, his parents and step-parents, sisters Vonda, Pat, and Susan, brothers Leon, and Bill, and Granddaughter Kezia Williams He is survived by his wife Barbara, Boise, ID; his daughters Valinda Cayetano, Pleasant View, TN and Jadean Lewis, Plattsburgh, NY; sons Bruce Goodwin, Irmo, SC, Alex Martindale, Boise, ID and Tony Martindale, Irmo, SC; sisters Jean (John) Scholtes, Ontario, OR, Lorie Bolander, Meridian, ID; brothers Vern (Louise) Martindale, North Salt Lake, UT and Delain Horn, Bremerton, WA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
His family wishes to thank Treasure Valley Hospice and especially their employee Michelle for providing Jay with the best possible care during his final days.
Services will be held Saturday the 27th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2680 W. Hill Rd, Boise Idaho. Viewing will be at 1 PM and Service at 2 PM.
