Margie Melvina Current

July 18, 1925 ~ October 15, 2021 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

On Saturday, October 15th, Margie Melvina Current, went home to be with the Lord, at the age of 96. Margie was born at home on July 18th, 1925 to Bernie and Silas Tibbs in Decatur, AR. Margie was an amazing woman whose family survived the Great Depression by picking cotton and working in the orchards in Arkansas and California. She met Frederick Alonzo Current at a fair in Arizona where he was dared by his friends to ask her to ride the ferris wheel with him, and the rest is history. When she was 18 years old, Margie and Fred eloped and were married in Reno, NV. They resided all over the Northwest while Fred worked on drill rigs in the mining industry. Margie spent most of her life as a homemaker until her youngest boys became teenagers, when she started working for the Idaho State School for several years. Due to Fred’s job that required him to frequently relocate, she stopped working at the school and traveled with Fred to be by his side. Margie taught herself to crochet and she enjoyed yard sales, sewing, embroidery, quilting, playing the penny slots at the casinos and collecting old glass bottles. Margie enjoyed being with her family doing puzzles and playing board games like Password or Scrabble. The highlight for her week would be going on a short day trip and having a picnic around the area. She loved watching sports on TV along with her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune. Margie is survived by her children Carol Teresa Devore, Ardith Daphene Campbell and Frederick Alonzo Current Jr. and her sister, Ruth Matthews. Margie also has 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Silas Tibbs, her husband, Frederick Alonzo Current, her brothers Harvey, Luther and Rudy, her sisters Eunice and Betty, and her children Douglas Martin Current and Linda Joyce Lester.
