Marilyn was born in Canon City, CO on March 22, 1932, to Ernest and Leola Georges of Westcliffe, CO. She grew up on a ranch with her parents and her sister Irene where she loved riding  horses. She raced and won several years in the cow pony lady's race. She attended Custer County High School and graduated in 1950 as the Valedictorian of her class.

Following her graduation from Brigham Young University (with honors) in 1954, Marilyn moved to San Francisco, CA where she met and married Arthur W. Garrison on December 17, 1955. They moved to Boise, Idaho in 1959 and have lived there since. Marilyn and Arthur had three sons, Donald, Russell, and Terry and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

While raising her sons, Marilyn gave piano lessons, sewed, was a Cub Scout Den mother, was a member of PTA and danced with Capitol Squares.
