On Friday, January 15, 2021, Mary Monica Shimel passed away at the age of 61 peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in her home.
Mary was born in Boise, Idaho on May 9th, 1959 to Virginia Artis and John Wallace. After graduating from Bishop Kelly High School she attended Idaho State University. As a young girl, Mary participated in the Bishop Kelly Drill Team and was an early member of the Boise YMCA swim team. She was also a voracious reader and published writer who succeeded in winning writing competitions. Mary managed a small grocery store, worked as a proofreader for Syms-York, and for many years was employed with the Boise School District as a Lunch Lady and Playground Duty. Time at the family cabin in Warm Lake, Idaho was always a treat for her, family, and friends.
Mary’s biggest joy was her family: Steve Shimel, her dedicated husband, her four children and five grandchildren. Mary’s creative spirit is forever instilled in the hearts of her immediate and extended family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held (Date/Time TBD) at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boise with a private graveside to follow at the Morris Hill Cemetery. For tributes and condolences visit www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com.
