Mary Magdalene Shriner

Mary Magdalene Shriner passed away at her home on Tuesday July 20, 2021 surrounded by her family at the age of 72.  She was born on September 8, 1948 in Williamson, West Virginia to Alvin and Donna (Shortridge) S. Hatfield, Sr.

Mary graduated from Severna Park High School in 1967 and married her sweetheart, Gerald W. Shriner Sr. on July 8, 1967 in Pasadena, Maryland.  She has resided in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Idaho. She retired from the State of Maryland Office of Fiscal Planning in 2001. 

Mary loved spending time with family and friends, especially with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing, collecting dolls, singing, cooking for everyone, going on cruises, shopping, playing games, attending church, and her grandchildren’s events.

Mary was baptized at Mount Prospect Baptist Church in Union, West Virginia and more recently attended Rockharbor Church in Meridian, Idaho. 

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gerald W. Shriner Sr., of Meridian, Idaho; children,  Michelle (husband, Ron) Manu and son, Gerald (wife, Kristi) W. Shriner, Jr, of Meridian, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Tevin, Trae, Tori, Trevor, Travis and Taylor; sister, Elinda Hatfield, brother, Roger Hatfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Donna Hatfield Sr.; brothers, Alvin Hatfield Jr.,  Ronald Hatfield, David Hatfield and Robert Hatfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday August 14, 2021 at Cloverdale Funeral Home in the Gibson Chapel, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd., Boise ID 83713. Mary will be placed at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Parkinson Disease Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
