Mildred Jean Walker Hancock

January 24, 1926 ~ May 13, 2022 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

Mildred Jean Walker Hancock was born January 24, 1926, in Malad City, Idaho to Thomas and Helen Hill. She grew up helping on the family ranch. She graduated from Malad High School. After graduation, Mildred moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she found work at Chase’s Garage as their bookkeeper. She met Alvin Walker, who was employed by Chase, as a mechanic. They fell in love and were married on September 9, 1945.

Alvin and Mildred lived in Aberdeen, Idaho; Grand Cooley, Washington; Twin Falls, Idaho and finally settled in Mountain Home, Idaho, where they built their family home and raised their three children:  daughter Janis and sons, Richard (Dick), and Donald (Don). After their children were raised, Mildred continued her bookkeeping career, working for her cousins Marilyn and Jerry Carrico, who operated a fuel oil franchise in Mountain Home. Alvin passed away January 28, 1983. She continued bookkeeping for the Carrico’s, and also worked for the Forest Service Office in Mountain Home. She remained in Mountain Home until 1988 and then moved to Boise, where she lived for the rest of her life. On April 29, 2000, she married our long-time Walker family friend, Elmer Hancock, and together they enjoyed a loving marriage.

Mildred had a cherished relationship with the Living God. She made her choice to serve Him in 1947 while sitting in gospel meetings under the teaching of Eddy Shearer and Wilford Hill. She was known to say, “I didn’t know much, but I knew I loved the people and I loved what I was hearing.” Mildred served the Lord faithfully for the rest of her life and cherished the privilege of hosting Sunday morning meetings in the home she shared with Alvin and the home she shared with Elmer. Her joy was welcoming her family, friends and workers into her home, and she mutually shared this with both Alvin and Elmer.

Mildred entered into rest, May 13, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helen Hill; her first husband, Alvin Walker; twin boys that died at birth; her brothers, Thomas Lyle Hill and Gerald Hill; and her sisters, Helen May McDaniel and Bessie Nelson. She leaves behind her husband, Elmer Hancock of Boise, Idaho; her sister, Edna Ekstrom of Inkom, Idaho; her children and their spouses, Janis and Marshall (Butch) Caston of Elk Grove, California; Richard and Deborah Walker of Pollack Pines, California; and Donald and Linda Walker of Meridian, Idaho; her grandchildren, Anthony, Rebecca, Jessica, Melissa, Richard, Brandi and Katy, thirteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mom is deeply loved and will be sorely missed. We take comfort in knowing she finished well and is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
