Tribute

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Noma Ruth Smith on September 30, 2021 after an unexpected illness at her home in Star Idaho.

The oldest of eight children, Noma was born in Los Angeles California on May 30, 1932, to Clarence and Dorine Stinnett.

When Noma was a child the family attended the Los Angeles First Church of the Nazarene but later after moving to East Los Angeles attended Montebello Church of the Nazarene where she met her future husband James Smith or as everyone calls him, Bud.

Noma and Bud were married at the Montebello Church of the Nazarene on September 17, 1954. They had their first son Dennis in 1955 and their second son Donald in 1956.

Noma had violin lessons as a child and taught herself to play both the organ and the piano. She was the church organist spanning 50 years at South Whittier Church of the Nazarene, La Mirada Church of the Nazarene and Hemet Church of the Nazarene. She was also a secretary of Hemet Church of the Nazarene for over 20 years.

Noma was grandmother to five grandchildren Jason and Justin (Dennis and wife Kelly), Staci Mahar, Travis and Taylor (Don and wife Christy). She was also great grandmother to Addison and an unborn grandson or granddaughter (Staci and husband Brenden), Levi and Jordyn (Jason and wife Megan), Judah and Elliny (Justin and wife Hilary).

Noma loved to cook and was known for her amazing potato casserole, baked beans, jello salad and cookie bars. Family and friends spent many hours around the table eating the meals she had cooked laughing and sharing memories.

Noma will be interned at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on November 2, 2021, at 11:00 o'clock in the morning. A memorial service will be held for Noma at a later date in her home state of California with family and friends.

While she will be greatly missed we know that we will see her again and hopefully she will be waiting with a potato casserole ready.
