Paul David Smith
September 4, 1930 - July 29, 2017
Paul was born in South Bend, Indiana, to John C. Smith and Esta Marie Smith. Paul’s death was caused by his ongoing heart failure however he was blessed with a very peaceful ending. His last day was spent with both friends and family after receiving some good news from his doctor.
Paul was extremely proud of his military service and feels so honored to have served in both WWII and the Korean War. After his discharge, he tried to live in California where he was raised but needed the quieter life of Idaho. He married Merle Fleming in 1959 and with her came the three children who became the loves of his life. Paul and Merle ran two very successful photo businesses known as Star Photo and Paul Smith Color Lab. They were a unique couple as they not only worked together but did almost everything together. They truly were each other’s best friend. Both Paul and Merle could talk to you for hours about rocks and photography.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Merle, his parents and all seven of his brothers and sisters and two grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Mervon (Diane Hollifield) Badesheim, Ila (Vontress) Cockrum and his son Jay (Leann) Parker; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a very special friend, Pauline Bittner.
A Celebration of Life service well be held at the Meridian SDA Church located at 1855 N Black Cat Road, Meridian, on Friday August 4, at 1:00 pm.
