Tribute

Phillip Dean Nelson was born on April 4, 1942 to Wendell and Charlotte Nelson in Rose Park, Utah, where he spent his childhood.  Phil graduated from West High School in 1960 and went on to serve a mission in Bavaria, Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  After his mission, Phil attended barber school and the University of Utah.  He was also in the Air National Guard reserves.  He married Inge Boeckmann in July of 1966 and they had three children, Dean, Deanna, and Jennifer.  Phil and Inge were later divorced.

During his career years, he worked as a barber to put himself through college, then for LSI Testing, Walter Kidde & Company, and finally for Hewlett Packard in 1977.  He traveled the world doing computer systems installation and repair.  He retired from HP in 2000, after working there 27 years.

In November, 1992, he married his wonderful wife, Janet Barker, in Boise, Idaho.  During their 27-year marriage, they lived in Boise, Marsing, and finally Nampa, Idaho.  They loved to travel in their RV, and spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona until they settled year-round in Nampa.

Phil enjoyed many hobbies and interests.  He loved to fish and hunt with his Dad.  He and his good friend, Ron Bullock, loved to fish at Strawberry Reservoir in Central Utah.  He liked camping and river rafting.  He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and flew his own plane for many years.  He loved woodworking, experi-menting with his 3D printer and building CNC machines.  He was, at one time, president of his local Airstream club.  When he passed, Phil was president and one of the founders and instructors of the Boise CNC club that met at Woodcraft of Boise.

Phil was preceded in death by his brother, Val, mother, Charlotte, father, Wendell, sister, Peggy Turner, and stepmother, Pearl Nelson.

He is survived by his wife Janet Nelson, his children, Dean (Maryann) Nelson, Deanna (Kelly) Bassett, Jennifer (William) Morey, his brother, Earl Nelson, and nine grandchildren, Michelle, Curtis, Danielle, Kendall, Sarah, Aidan, Rayne, Elyse, and Ashlyn.
