Tribute

Quitman P. Rawls (Phil), 86, passed away September 1, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Bostwick, Florida on October 27, 1931 to John G. And Carol Rawls. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Verla, daughters Becky McCormick (Russ) and Sherri Matney (Larry), and son Ron (Pam), brother Roy (Jan), and sister Carolyn Griggs, as well as grandchildren Angie, Bryan, Scott, Nicole and Zach, and great-grandchildren Cole, Sophia and Eloise.
Phil spent 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1973 at the rank of Chief Master Sargent. He was stationed at Mt. Home AFB on two occasions, and Travis AFB, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After retirement he worked for the BLM for 17 years, and then worked at Shadow Valley Golf Course as a marshal until “fully retiring” in 2007. He and his wife took numerous trips through the years and in 2005 on their 50th wedding anniversary their kids sent them on a trip of a lifetime to London, Paris, and then to Marseille to visit brother Roy and family.
He was a member of the Baptist Church in Plymouth, Florida in his youth. He served as an usher for years at Trinity Fellowship in Boise, and was currently attending Calvary Chapel in Boise. He loved the game of golf and played every Saturday with his sons-in-law, occasionally joined by his grandson. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Cloverdale Funeral Home, with a celebration of Phil’s life to follow at BanBury Golf Course.
