Richard (Dick) Schrandt passed away unexpectedly at his beloved cabin in McCall, Idaho on September 14, 2023. Dick was born September 28, 1950 in Osage, Iowa to Fritz and Rita Schrandt. He grew up in Stacyville, Iowa, graduating from Marion High School in 1968. He was a class leader in many ways- President of his Senior Class, Captain of the basketball team and Catcher for the State Runner Up baseball team.
He graduated from Loras College in 1972 with a degree in accounting and worked for Arthur Andersen CPA Firm in Chicago and then Peavey/Conagra in Minneapolis and Colorado. In 1985, he, along with John Murdoch, took a “leap of faith” (as Dick always said) and quit the corporate life to purchase D & B Supply, headquartered in Caldwell, Idaho. There were four stores initially. He expanded it to eleven stores before selling the business in 2002. Being part of the D & B family was one of Dick’s greatest joys.
Dick married his high school sweetheart, Sue (Wageman) in 1971 and recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They were true soul mates and never tired of each other’s company.
Dick excelled at retirement! Traveling and playing golf were two of his favorite past times. He spent hours every morning doing his crossword puzzles. He loved his morning walks, whether it was on the golf course in Naples, the greenbelt in Eagle or around Blackhawk Lake in McCall. Some other favorite joys were watching the Minnesota Vikings, following Gonzaga Basketball and enjoying a Manhattan cocktail. More than anything else though, he cherished his family and especially enjoyed their gatherings at the McCall cabin.
Dick had a generous and kind spirit; he quietly and with no fanfare helped many people and organizations during his 72 years.
Dick is survived by his wife, Sue; his children Krista Naymik, Kara (Mike) Dacquisto, and Nate (Amy) Schrandt; and his siblings Marie (Kelly) Hendrix and Charlie (Bev) Schrandt. Papa will be missed by his six grandchildren Ty and Raya Naymik, Cora and Lia Dacquisto, and Jackson and Lucille Schrandt. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ginny.
Services will be held at 1PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Cloverdale Funeral Home with reception to follow at SpurWing Club. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Harry Chapin Food Bank in Naples, Florida or your favorite charity in Dick’s memory.
