Tribute

Our beloved Bob Haga passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023, surrounded by family in his home at the Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Boise, Idaho.

Born Robert Rouse Haga, on January 27, 1926, Bob grew up on a farm in Chilhowie, Virginia. At the age of 18, after graduating from high school, Bob joined the Navy and was immediately stationed on a minesweeper on the coast of Normandy to clear the way for the D-Day invasion. He was one of the last living survivors of the D-Day invasion. Bob kept a daily journal during the invasion which caught the attention of PBS Nova, who interviewed Bob for their documentary “D-Day’s Sunken Treasures” and flew him to Normandy for an anniversary commemoration.

When Bob returned home from his military service, he attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Holt. They were married for 75 years. Bob retired as the National Sales Manager for Sea-Land Shipping.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his two sons, Tom and Rick. The last year of his life was spent making wonderful memories with his grandsons Holt and Winn, daughters-in-law Nancy Haga and Katie Mooney Haga, and his great granddaughter Clio.

Much thanks and appreciation go to his extended family Mike and Karen, Megan Mooney and Brian Wonderlich and their children Hank and Margie, who loved him as their own. The family gives our sincere gratitude to the Brookdale Assisted Living staff and residents who surrounded Bob with devoted love, care, and friendship.

Bob will be inurned alongside his wife where they will join their sons Tom and Rick at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
