Robert L Minnis

Tribute

Robert “Bob” L. Minnis, a loving husband, father, grandfather, businessman, Shriner, Mason, and a good and generous friend, passed away on May 25, 2023 at his home in Meridian, Idaho at the age of 95. He was born 1/22/1928 in Baldwin, Kansas. Robert (Bob) and his sister Margaret were the children of Ernest and Nellie Minnis, who lived in Bogard, Missouri. He liked to say that if he’d been able to have a kindergarten class, There’s no telling how far he might have gone, because the local school had no Kindergarten classes. He did complete high school and at the age of 17, he enlisted to serve in the United States Navy as an Engineer and was assigned to an LST in the engine room. He saw service in China, Japan, Guam, & Pagan Island, during World War ll until his Honorable discharge in August 1946. Bob attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California until he graduated in 1949 and married Dorothy Moore the same year. He worked in Sales positions eventually owning his own businesses. He retired 3 times, but couldn’t resist getting involved in another business. Once after selling two businesses which lasted about 2 years. He then went to work for a Steel Fabrication company where he happily worked for many more years. As career number 3, he handled Trust management for many friends & family, finally stepping back from this responsibility in his early 80’s. For over 40 years Bob was very active as a Shriner and Mason. He was involved with the Shrine hospital transporting patients from Mexico to the L A Shrine hospital. He was always a very generous man donating money and time to the hospital. Bob’s first wife, Dorothy Minnis died in January 2007 after a long illness. Bob remarried a Collage friend, Portia Call, in late 2007 and they moved to Meridian, Idaho where She died in early 2014. He missed her very much and was reconnected with another classmate of theirs, Ardie Ban, who became his wife when they were married July 10, 2014. It can be said, that this marriage made him very happy and they enjoyed almost 9 years together. Bob is survived by his wife, Ardie Minnis, his Son, Don Minnis and wife Ilania, two Grandsons, Scott Minnis, Grant Minnis and wife Rachelle, and Neice, Barbara Dumler. As well as Portia’s Daughter Jane and her Husband David. Bob was truly loved by many and will be missed!
