Tribute

Ronald was born in Fall River Mills, California. He spent the last three weeks of his life fighting COVID and double pneumonia. He passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho.

Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, his two daughters-Lorie (James) Cable and Audrey (David) Krueger. Ron has five grandchildren-Crystal (Ferron) Kawamura, Darrell (Ali) Cable, Josh Cable, Jaden Krueger and Isabella Krueger. He has one great granddaughter, Liliana Kawamura. Ron and Millie also had a foreign exchange student, Yuhan Roh, who is like a son to them and is considered family.

Ron grew up in the Fall River Mills/Big Bend area. Ronald graduated in 1960 from Shasta High School, Redding, CA. He then joined the Air Force in 1962. Just a year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Millie on June 15, 1963. The Air Force took them many places, including Moses Lake, WA, where his first daughter, Lorraine Marie was born in 1965. His next daughter, Audrey Jeanne, was born in 1968 while he was stationed in Germany.

Ron became a Christian while in elementary school. He and Millie taught 3rd grade Sunday school for 25 years. He spent many years singing in the choir.

In the beginning of 1984, after twenty years, Ron retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent. He attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. He spent one year in Thailand during the Vietnam War. One of the highlights of his military career was being a part of the set up crew when the Columbia Space Shuttle landed at White Sands in New Mexico. Ron’s specialty in the military was aircraft sheet metal. He received a number of awards. A few of them include an Air Force Commendation Medal, eight Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and a National Defense Service Medal. Ron was proud to serve his country in the Air Force. After retirement he serviced copiers for several years.

Ron had many hobbies which include metal detecting, racing go-carts, collecting coins, camping, hunting and fishing. He and Millie spent time looking for arrowheads and they have quite a collection. Ron also had a great love of old cars since he was a child. He personally restored a 34 Oldsmobile and a 37 Chevy pickup. He won many awards with both restorations. If you asked any of his children or grandchildren, they would tell you that their Papa taught them a lot about fishing. Memories that they will cherish.

Ron loved his family very much and loved camping and fishing with them. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and spent his life serving the Lord, reading his Bible and praying for others. He continued to grow in his Christian walk throughout his life. His greatest desire was for his family and friends to have a personal relationship with the Lord.
