Ruth Catherine Abel passed away peacefully Thursday Sept 28th surrounded by family. 

 

Ruth was born to George Turner and Mary Bradshaw Turner on July 25th, 1919 on the Medlan Ranch in Young County Texas. Her father later moved the family to an 8000-acre cattle ranch in Ramon, New Mexico.  

 

As a 15-year-old Ruth rode roundup with her Dad and the ranch hands going from waterhole to waterhole with a chuck wagon taking two weeks to get to market. After graduating from High School at 16 years of age, Ruth moved to the city and worked as a store clerk and never rode a horse again.   Ruth married John Abel, an employee of Western Electric (a subsidiary of AT&T) and they moved around the US with John's work until the mid-forties, at which time they settled in Boise Idaho.  Ruth raised her family, of 5 at 12 th and Fort street   Ruth worked in the mid 1970's thru 80's for Wilkes Jewelry in Mountain Home.  She loved being outdoors on her patio, growing flowers, dancing, socializing playing bridge and taking drives. Ruth loved life. In her years as a young wife and mother Ruth participated in multiple organizations throughout the Treasure Valley including St. John's Altar Society, St Joseph's School PTA, the Boise Little Theater, The Idaho State School and Hospital, the Elks and the Red Hatters. Ruth enjoyed playing bridge with multiple groups around Boise.

 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, her spouse, and 2 daughter's (Dorothy and Deborah).  She is survived by her children Bob, Greg, Mary, & Christina; and multiple grand & great grand children.

 

Ruth left a legacy of courgage, kindness, & integrity. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
