Tribute

Our beloved Sharon Ruby Freeman Slocum went home to be with the Lord November 15, 2020. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home where she was able to see her close family members in her last few days.

Sharon was born in Missoula Montana June 27, 1951 to Wynona L. and William N. Freeman. She moved with her family to Southern California during her grade school years, where they lived for a number of years until they moved to Idaho in 1965 where Sharon was able to spend all of her high school years, graduating with the class of 69.

Sharon married Stephen R. Mills after graduating from high school and had two children, Dennis R. Mills born in 1971, and Charity D. Mills born 4 years later in 1975. Stephen and Sharon later divorced in 1984.

She married Peter C. Slocum February 15, 1987 who she remained married to until her passing. Sharon and Peter were fortunate to celebrate their 33rd anniversary earlier this year!

One of Sharon’s joys was her grandchildren whom she loved having over to spend time with and spoil with ice cream and soda.

Sharon was also known for preparing from scratch the Freeman Family BBQ sauce, which she enjoyed sharing with her friends and family. This love of BBQ was cultivated at an early age when her father William managed a BBQ restaurant in Costa Mesa.

Sharon had several other hobbies: Sharon was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed making blankets and pillow cases for her family members. She learned sewing in junior high as an alternative to waiting for her mother to finish a dress at the midnight hour.

She took tole paint classes and developed into a talented painter, creating many tole paintings that brought beauty to her home and the homes of others who were fortunate enough to have them. Her love of aesthetics was also evident in her cultivation of flowers throughout her adult life.

Sharon also had a second family, her family at Disability Determinations. Sharon worked for the state of Idaho for over three decades. She continued to work full time until two months prior to her passing even though she could have retired with full benefits. She did this because she loved the people she worked with for many years, and spoke fondly of them.

What defined Sharon the most was her faith. Sharon came to believe in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her early 30’s which changed her life and her family relationships forever.
e
Sharon was preceded in death by her father William N Freeman, her grandparents Ruby and William H. Freeman, and Cecilia and Buell Caywood. Sharon is survived by her husband Peter C. Slocum, her children Charity Mills Philp and Dennis (Rachel) Mills, her mother Wynona Freeman, her two brothers William and David Freeman, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
