Shirley Faye Bonde, 81, of Boise, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018 after a three year battle with multiple myeloma with her daughter Nicole by her side. Shirley was born on August 18, 1936 in Pittsburg, OK to Fred and Sarah Rice and had four siblings: Frances, Pauline, Fredine and younger brother Jackie. Shirley graduated from Pittsburg High School where she excelled in basketball. After graduation, she moved to Caldwell, ID where she met her future husband, A.N. Bonde O.D. They were married on June 2, 1957 and they had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on the day before that she passed. Art and Shirley later moved to Forest Grove, OR where she helped support her husband get his degree in Optometry. The couple had three daughters: Toni (Claire) Bonde, Paige (Lawrence) Lucas and Nicole (Steve) Collins. They moved back to Caldwell to raise their family. Shirley worked for her husband as a receptionist and helped run his optometry practice. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed playing pinnacle, camping, fishing, hunting and getting together with family and friends. Shirley was an excellent cook and famously known for her sour cream enchiladas and fried chicken. One of her favorite things was to make birthday cakes for her grandkids; they were always falling apart but tasted amazing. Art and Shirley always had an open house. The girls’ friends spent numerous hours at their house. They welcomed their guests with open arms and always had “I’m Not Lisa” playing on the record player. Shirley was very proud of being a member of the Potawatomi Nation Indian Tribe and she raised her kids and grandkids to be proud of it as well. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Fredine and Pauline, daughter Paige, nephew Charles and niece Julie. She is survived by her husband, Art; her daughters Toni (Claire) Bonde and Nicole (Steve) Collins; son-in-law, Lawrence Lucas; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and numerous family members who loved her dearly. A special thanks for the team at Misti Meridian who helped us keep positive attitudes and shared our humor, especially Dr. Travis Williams (Turtle Dove), his nurse Sweet Denise, Marie Swonger and all of the rest of the care team.
