Wayne King

November 25, 1940 ~ April 12, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Wayne King was born in Los Angeles, California to Scott and Florence King, one of five children:  Sandra Taylor (Richard), Wayne, Barbara Meiner (Dan), Fred (Katie), and Bill (Chris).  He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Dorthea Benson King and their three children, Kimberleigh (Lisa Horton), Dorthea (Carl Bogren), and Lily (Patricia Roden).

His career began working summers as a Hot Shot firefighter on the San Bernardino National Forest between semesters at Pasadena City College. To further his education, he enrolled in the Forestry program at Humboldt State University.  Upon graduation he was hired as a Logging Engineer for Simpson Timber Company in Klamath, California in the Redwoods.  After three years he decided to go back to school and earned his MBA in Business as applied to Forestry at the University of Oregon.  Boise Cascade recruited him upon graduation.  His career with Boise Cascade lasted over 20 years and he ended his career as a Regional Manager in Timber Management.  In 1988, Wayne realized his dream of starting a timber manufacturing company. He and his business partner, Bud Filler, co-founded Filler King Company in Homedale, ID.  Wayne and Bud enjoyed running a very successful company for almost 23 years.  Their policy was always to be fair to their employees and they always encouraged employee input.  Wayne had a natural curiosity and understanding of how things worked and was always thinking of ways to make improvements, which were numerous.  In 2010 Filler King was sold to Boise Cascade.

Wayne’s interests were far reaching.  He loved the ocean and felt at home there. He also felt at home in the woods and was an avid bow hunter, but what he really enjoyed was getting close to nature and its inhabitants.  Other interests were fly fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling and motorcycling.  Always an avid reader, he even understood nano-science!  One of his greatest loves was flying.  He and his wife took flying lessons together in Yakima, WA.  When they moved to Idaho, Wayne became interested in the back country and enjoyed the challenge of flying with his fellow pilots. He fell in love with Super Cubs and actually rebuilt two Super Cubs and added modifications to his Cessna.  He liked being involved in any project with his pilot friends that included working on planes.

He loved getting together with friends and swapping stories.  He had many stories to tell and could definitely captivate his audience.  He will be missed by many...
