Yale John Dick

Yale John Dick, 89, of Boise, Idaho passed away from natural causes on October 11, 2018 in
Boise.

Yale was born at home on November 23, 1928 in Shelley, Idaho to Glenn and Sadie Kelley
Dick. He was the second child in a family of four children: Norma, Yale, Kaye and Richard.
Yale’s family moved quite a bit when he was young; in his first seventeen years of life he lived in
Shelley, Idaho Falls, Provo, Utah and Pocatello, eventually moving to Boise when he was
seventeen.

Yale was a good athlete and participated in school athletics, 4-H, and FFA from grade school
through high school. From a young age his summers were spent working on various farms in
the area he was living in at the time. Yale was always a hard worker; a strong work ethic was
instilled in him when he was very young.

In the fall of 1946, Yale’s senior year, the family moved to Boise where he attended Boise High
School. During his senior year he joined the Boise Navy Reserves. After boot camp, the
summer out of high school, he transferred to the Navy Seabees where he served for the next
41 years retiring in 1988. Yale had a deep love for the Navy and the military in general and was
always proud of his service.

Post high school, Yale attended the University of Idaho. He soon left his studies to begin his
career in the logging industry by purchasing a logging truck which he drove full-time for five
years. During this time, late 1949, Yale met Connie Obenchain. They were married on June 28,
1951 in the First Christian Church in Boise. Over the next several years they had three
children: Shannon, Stephen and David.

In the mid 1950’s, Yale went to work with his father who owned Glenn Dick Equipment
Company. He soon transferred from driving his logging truck to working in sales for his father
selling farming equipment to farmers and ranchers and eventually trucks and heavy equipment
to the logging and construction industry.
In the years working for his father, Yale continued to accumulate logging and highway trucks
and started his own trucking businesses. The logging trucks ran under Mountain States
Logging and the highway trucks under Idaho Brokerage and Lease. Yale dedicated his life to
the business his father started.

Yale loved outdoor activities including taking the family water skiing and snow skiing. He loved
hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains he loved so much. Yale was a risk taker and he
also loved scuba diving and parachuting.
Yale is survived by his wife Connie of Boise, his three children, Shannon Smith (David) of Las
Vegas, Stephen (Katherine) of Eagle, ID and David (Marilyn) of Spokane, WA. He has 12
grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin
Dickson.
